Here are some things you’ll do on the job:
-
Empower every employee @ Seis to be able to use the data they need: an important part of your job will be doing whatever it takes to unblock others from using data, whether that’s creating a data dictionary, training staff members, or answering one off questions about how to use our data
-
Dashboards: just because we want Seis team members to be able to create their own reports, doesn’t mean you won’t be owning & creating many reports yourself. You’ll be the owner & creator of many reports & dashboards across the entire business. If someone doesn’t know how to create their own report, you’ll do it for them & teach them how they can do it themselves in the future
-
Know our business cold: you should know the ins & outs of our business better than anyone. You’ll be explaining to us things we’ve missed, and asking questions that we didn’t even know we should be asking. You’ll give additional context, clarify, and understanding to why our numbers might look a certain way, how we might learn more, and ultimately what could we do about it
-
Owning the data stack: you’ll be the keymaster to our entire data stack. If you want to help people create awesome reports, you have to be able to own & control the data layer underneath. This responsibility will be yours.
-
Finding product insights that can only be found in data: we’re talking to customers every day & have tons of qualitative data. What we need now is to build the muscle of finding customer & product learnings in our data. We do this a little today, but we need to become the best in the business.
-
Own key data customer relationships: you’ll have key stakeholders in the business who need data: our CEO, CTO, Head of Finance, Head of Customer support, and others. You’ll make sure they have the reporting they need to be the best in the world at their jobs.
You’ll know you’re successful when:
- The company builds a culture of asking “what does the data say?” as one of the first questions in making product decisions
- Our margins increase because you found low-hanging fruit areas to cut variable costs
- Our customer support team becomes more efficient because we’re better at matching demand to supply
- Everyone at Seis knows how to use our data & reporting to better do their jobs
- We better understand the tradeoffs between fraud prevention efforts & the opportunity cost of false positives
- We have stronger & more actionable signals of fraudulent customers before they steal from us
About you
- You have a background in data engineering: specifically, you’ve created the data stacks & reporting that are used to solve business problems
- You love data because you love using it to take action & improve yourself & the companies you work for. You don’t love data for data’s own sake.
- You can work up & down the stack: everywhere from creating the ETL pipeline all the way to setting up a report in a visualization tool.
- You can explain complicated data & reporting nuances in everyday, easy-to-understand language
- You love making your customer – whoever that is – happy & more productive at their job
- If you have a background in consumer fintech & card programs that is ideal, but not required
- Speaking Spanish is a huge plus but not a requirement
