Stock volume spikes on sector reshuffle, quadruple witching; seen to continue next week
NEW YORK: An overhaul of Wall Street's technology and media sectors coincided with the quarterly expiration of futures and options, bringing a burst of volume to trading late on Friday that could continue in the days that follow.
SINGAPORE (Dec 12): Economists have downgraded the outlook for Singapore’s 2019 growth rate for the second time in three months, a quarterly poll released by its central bank on Wednesday showed.
The economists expect Singapore - seen as a bellwether for the global economy because its exports equate to around 200 percent of its output - to have growth of 2.6 percent in 2019, compared with an estimated 3.3 percent this year.
The latest 2019 projection is lower than the 2.7 percent seen in the September report and the 2.8 percent that the poll released in June showed.
KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 12): Malaysia's Ministry of Transport (MoT) said today it is of the view that Singapore's unilateral move to publish the new instrument landing system (ILS) procedures for Seletar Airport in Singapore's Aeronautical Information Publication is indeed a clear violation of Malaysia's sovereignty besides international law and standards.
The MoT said in a statement today it is a matter of principle for the MoT not to release correspondences between the parties to address media queries and to garner public support.
