Definitely, it is your top priority to motivate your employees in your business. There's a saying; great companies aren’t built by any one person but by a strong and trustworthy team.
With a team of motivated employees who are excited and not dreading to go to work, success is imminent. Below are two methods I firmly believe in and are the foundation of building a strongly motivated team.
Lead by example
Actions speak louder than words in reality. If you want your employees to be motivated, you need to be motivated yourself. You will need to bring that energy into the workplace and most of the time, your employees will reciprocate in kind.
Employees look up to their employers to have some form of career guidance. The way you dress to a meeting, your tone, the way you interact with people; all these are crucial in setting a benchmark for your employees.
In a badly managed company, problems usually stem from the top. Your actions and behaviour will dictate the motivation level of your employees.
Find out what your employees want
It is a rule of thumb in life that you will need to give before taking. Find out what your employees want and their long term goals. If an employee isn't motivated, chances are that person is not getting what he or she wants from the given role.
Assist your employees in getting what they want or at least get them closer to their goal. When an employee knows that you are putting them first, they will most likely return in favour. This action will also validate the importance of their role in the company.
This seems like a trivial task to employers but in the long run, it will definitely benefit your company. Do take note that there is no same template for everybody and everyone is driven differently.
Organise monthly or quarterly reviews to check in with your employees. Sit down with them and listen to their stories. It will give you a good gauge on what they are going through with work and with their personal life. In fact, this is a trait of a good employer and as a result, your employees will definitely be motivated.
