The digital economy has been identified by the Government as a key driver of economic growth and a catalyst for the country to transform to a knowledge-based economy.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak earlier in the year announced 2017 as the Year of the Internet Economy for Malaysia. This has led the Government to place a strong emphasis on developing the country’s digital economy.

⭐️ Special Guest: Ong Kian Yew
Ong Kian Yew is the Executive Director of PIKOM, the National ICT Association of Malaysia, an industry association representing 1500 member companies that command 80% of the total ICT trade in Malaysia. As Executive Director, he is responsible for the operations of the association and its wholly-owned events arm, PIKOM Services Sdn Bhd.
Kian Yew is very active representing PIKOM at international fora including the World IT and Services Alliance (WITSA) and the Asian Oceanian Computing Industry Organisation (ASOCIO). He served as Secretary General of ASOCIO in 2013.
Kian Yew is also responsible for the government engagement in PIKOM. He sits on various committees representing the ICT industry and plays a key role in ICT industry advocacy to the government.
A graduate of the University of Strathclyde in Scotland, Kian Yew has more than 20 years experience in the ICT industry.
⭐️ Special Guest: Aurobindo Ponniah, Executive Director
Aurobindo has over 22 years of experience in tax consulting, research, training and documentation. He has worked extensively with tax authorities in the Asia-Pacific region and corporate organisations on various issues involving tax treaties, permanent establishments, financial instruments, cross border transactions, hybrid structures and anti-abuse provisions.
Aurobindo has a Bachelor of Laws (LLB). He is a Member of the Chartered Tax Institute of Malaysia (CTIM), an Executive Committee member of the International Fiscal Association’s (IFA) Malaysian branch and a committee member of the IFA’s Asia-Pacific Committee.
⭐️ Special Guest: Yap Lai Han, Executive Director
Lai Han is an Executive Director with PwC Malaysia’s Indirect Tax Advisory Group. She has over 18 years of experience in assisting and advising companies on various compliance and advisory matters pertaining to GST and other indirect taxes such as excise duty, import duty, sales tax and service tax. Her clients include those in the motor, telecommunication, financial services sectors, fast moving consumer goods, IT, property and construction, manufacturing and trading industries.
Degree in Business Administration majoring in Finance from the National University of Malaysia.
