Amazon has acquired 3 new domain names associated with cryptocurrency, stirring rumours that the e-commerce titan might be making a push into the cryptocurrency space.
However, Amazon Pay's VP Patrick Gauthier recently stated that Amazon had absolutely no intentions to adopt cryptocurrency because the interest for it is still low, and this move could only mean that Amazon may simply be safeguarding its brand name.
The headline comes as Bitcoin, the biggest cryptocurrency by market cap, shattered another record high price, following reports of CME's strategy to introduce Bitcoin futures by the end of Q4 this year.
Also, there have been speculations of Amazon subsequently accepting cryptocurrencies, like Bitcoin, but the firm has in no way confirmed these plans. Only last month, another unproven report about Amazon's acceptance of Bitcoin increased Bitcoin's value instantly.
Regardless, Amazon appears ambitious on acquiring several cryptocurrency-related domain names. Amazon also registered for the domain "amazonbitcoin.com" 3 years ago. Amazonbitcoin.com now redirects to Amazon.com.
