Founder of 500 startups, Dave McClure took to his Medium account his personal thoughts and call to action of the recent executive order signed by Donald Trump earlier today.

Titled "Dear America: Woke as Fuck now, eh? #DealWithIt", he urges fellow Americans to take a stand against the injustice that's taking place in the US today, and to take action swiftly.

On his Medium post, he also lists down a various options available for disposal ranging from protesting, legal solutions, donations, and more.

Well folks, if you weren’t paying attention before, I hope you are now.

It seems our “President” has decided to ban legal US permanent residents and holders of visas along with refugees from a few select countries he doesn’t like (perhaps because they didn’t choose to build any hotels bearing his name). If you thought that Trump should be taken “seriously but not literally” perhaps you may wish to re-evaluate that perspective.

Likely illegal, this reprehensible act betrays the very foundation and roots of our country, comprised almost entirely of immigrants, based on religious tolerance, and sympathy for those less fortunate. We should be ashamed.

While it may be too late to save our country from setting its leadership and principles on fire and tossing them in the garbage, it’s not too late for us to wake the fuck up and start doing something about it. Try a few of these.

You can protest, both online and IRL. You can also support others who protest, or protest on behalf of those who don’t have a voice (or may be at risk if they do. Stand up & be counted.
You can call or email or write your elected representatives and tell them what you think, and what positions you’d like them to represent in Congress. Tell them voter ID laws are racist and unlawful, and that actively or passively suppressing the ability for citizens to vote should be a crime.

You can donate money to the ACLU and other organizations that defend the rights of those who can’t always defend themselves. I might also suggest others like EFF, Amnesty International, Planned Parenthood, & Mercy Corps.

You can ask your friends and family to help spread the word that America should not be muzzling the press or telling ridiculous lies.

If you work for Facebook, Google, or Twitter you can talk to leadership and tell them you don’t support allowing fake news articles to be published or monetized on your platforms, and that anonymous hate speech and bot accounts are polluting your products and tools, and twisting mission and purpose to misinform people and fear and hate each other.
Above all, do not take this behavior for granted, nor treat it like it’s anything but abnormal and abhorrent.

You should assume you will be next in line for having freedom & liberty stripped away by imperial decree. While this particular executive order may not directly impact you or those you love, it has no place in our open society. You will of course realize this more acutely when it’s your butt that is about to be whipped.

There is no one to blame but ourselves for the mess we are now in. Get off your ass and make a difference, before the shining city on a hill becomes a shadow of its former self.
As our nation was formed, when asked if we had created a monarchy or a republic, Ben Franklin replied, “A republic, if you can keep it.”

If you give a fuck about democracy my friends, now is the time to make it count.

Stand for something, and be counted.
(else, stand for nothing, and be discounted)
